BENGALURU: The battle for the top spot among online marketplaces is heating up with market leader Flipkart gaining leadership in the mobile commerce space with 47% share of the traffic for December 2015 according to data mining firm, SimilarWeb. App-only marketplace Myntra accounts for 16% of the traffic, followed by Amazon at 15.86% according to a report by the Naspersbacked web analytics and data mining company. The data studied mobile app traffic for the following companies — Flipkart, Myntra, Amazon, Snapdeal, Jabong and Shopclues. It did not include mobile marketplace Paytm, which has made an aggressive foray into online retail and is backed by China's Alibaba. An earlier report released in October 2015 by SimilarWeb indicated that Flipkart-Myntra together account for 60% of the share for daily active users between January and July 2015. However a separate survey by analytics firm AppAnnie had shown that the Indian arm of Amazon recorded the highest number of site visits during the month of October and a 200% increase in app downloads year-over-year in the same month. A comScore report also showed that Amazon India had 30 million visitors during the Diwali month, ahead of Flipkart and Snapdeal.
